ADVERTISING FLYER
The
rumors are true! The school play this year which will
be performed on March 19 - 21, 2009, is Peter Pan. The
annual school play is a tremendous effort of over 3000
volunteer man hours each year and is an excellent example
of the school spirit of Tijeras Creek. It is a
wonderful experience for our families who participate
and also for those who choose to watch. There are many
speaking parts and wonderful roles for both boys and
girls. The music is amazing and the committee is
already meeting to plan costumes, sets, props,
choreography, and more.
Karen Barrus, our primary music teacher, will be our
director this year with Assistant directors, Erin
Tennison and Ralph Mattera. Heidi Andrews and Lori
Ashbrook will serve as producers this year with the able
assistance of Marianne DuMity. We are very excited
about this production.
NEW THIS YEAR:
This year parents who are volunteering as supervisors
during rehearsals and during play nights must have a
district cleared volunteer identification badge.
Unfortunately, play supervision does not count as the
"one time" exception to this district rule. Because
many parents work and did not intend to get a volunteer
badge to volunteer in the classroom this year, we have
tried to come up with another solution. The cost of
completing the Dept. of Justice background check and TB
test is approximately $70 per person. Parents have a
minimum 15 hour volunteer commitment per participating
scholar. Parents may opt out of this commitment by
contributing an additional donation of $150 to the play
costs. This money will be used to hire bonded
caregivers/district employees for supervision. If you
choose to obtain the volunteer badge, you must have your
paperwork in process by December 1 . Forms are
available in the school office. This background
clearance is good for the entire time your child is
enrolled in this school district through graduation from
high school. Prior to our first rehearsal in January,
your name must be on the cleared district list. We
know this district policy, while inconvenient is in the
best interest of all of our children and we appreciate
your support.
Auditions
will be held on Wednesday, November 5 from 1:00 - 4:30
p.m. in the Library and Thursday, November 6 from 2:00 -
5:00 p.m. in the Library. Kindergarten and first grade
scholars should plan to audition on Wednesday from
1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
if possible. Scholars wishing to audition will be asked
to sing a song of their choice acapella (no music).
Those wishing speaking parts should be familiar with the
audition script. Memorization is not required, but does
give your actor a better opportunity to show their
personality.
To
support our "Green Theme" at Tijeras Creek, audition
packets with registration and audition scripts can
be downloaded from the PTA website after Monday, October
27. Please do not ask the office for copies of
audition packets. Play participation rules are included
in the audition packet. Pages 3 and 4 should be
returned to the office as soon as possible. Audition
confirmation times will be e-mailed each day. Please
